First you bought Engadget, then Tech Crunch, and now Huffington Post? How dare you. You suck as a company always have, always will.  I have no interest in supporting any company who treats it’s paying customers and indeed all their customers – like shit.  The reason I liked those sites was because they weren’t owned by AOL or some other huge media conglomerate.  You tried innovation but nobody wants your products and services anymore because you have screwed them over time and again.  Now you are simply and subtlety buying out the companies I still like. I don’t trust you as a company, your services suck, I wouldn’t recommend you to anyone and whenever you buy out another company I am forced to stop using it, because in the back of my mind I am thinking, “what about this article is trying to manipulate my point of view.  F**k off and die already!

If anyone can recommend a new Huffington Post, not owned by Aol. I am all ears.

[UPDATE]  I don’t appear to be the only one who feels this way about Huffington Post.  Check out this article.

One of my goals this year was to try meditation at least once. Truth is, I tried this before but instead tried to turn off or turn down my mind. But I never thought of trying something like this. It seems like it would be more effective.

Those who know me would probably think of me a bit as a cancer nut.  But you don’t have to be crazy to perform a simple Google Search on Genetically Modified Foods.  Since losing my uncle to cancer a few months back, I have been very concerned about the safety of everyday things that have been shown to cause cancer I spend hours a day learning about carcinogenic materials.

Cancer is on the rise, and this isn’t just because our population is aging.  This is a direct result of the environment we live in, and the toxins we come into contact with on an everyday basis.  Science is constantly developing new materials, new chemicals, and now more than ever genetic modification of our food supply is becoming a serious concern of mine.   We are creating our very own versions of plants, not through cross breeding or evolution but instead by rearranging, removing and adding genetic material to create plants in a lab that produce more food, need less water, are insect and pest resistant, and disease free.  While this sounds wonderful, it appears that some of these new plants including foods within our own food supply like corn and soy, have been shown to produce cancer.

People should be allowed to know when they are consuming a product that is dangerous.  The food industry fights back with tens of millions of dollars with lobbyists that try to prevent the LABELING of GM Foods.  Often times companies that create this genetically modified seed, perform sloppy testing or hire affiliated labs to test the safety of the new GM food, which put profit ahead of safety.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is tasked with the job of verifying the safety of our food.  However most of the people who work with the FDA are former CEOs of giant food distributors.  The tendency to simply approve or turn a blind eye to poor testing practices that leave out information or ignore signs that their may be a problems with safety.
After all, we don’t just eat something toxic an immediately get cancer, which would make it easy to pinpoint the cause.  It’s more profitable to sell toxic foods, and change the formula, or recall food if caught.

It is up to you to protect yourself.  You need to be vigilant and should inform yourself and know what you are eating and what is in the products you buy.

Avoid Plastic and Aluminum for Food and Drink.

  1. Avoid drinking from plastic, especially plastics with recycling codes of 3,6, and 7.
  2. Don’t store leftovers or food of any kind in plastic.  Instead use glass tupperware.  I use these, they are made from glass, are pretty rugged and the lids are BPA Free, these will last forever.
  3. Use glass pitchers for drinks not plastic.  Here are a couple nice ones that I bought: 1, 2, 3.  While all of these are on Crate and Barrel, I got these exact ones at Walmart.  I prefer the one with lids because the water doesn’t pick up the smells of the refrigerator. Spend some money on them.  Again, they will last forever.
  4. Avoid bottled water, opt for faucet mount fixtures.  I strongly recommend Brita brand.  The filters are cheaper than Pur, and the water tastes perfect.
  5. Cut back on drinking soda from aluminum cans, or bottles.  The buildup of aluminum over a lifetime is linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia.
  6. Avoid handling receipts.  Some receipt paper is coated in BPA.
  7. Use wooden serving spoons and utensils instead of plastic ones.
  8. Beware of stainless steel bottles with an inner lining.  When not labeled “BPA Free”, often times you are buying a bottle that is lined with BPA.
  9. Switch to silicone or safer type of plastic for ice cubes.  I have these.
  10. Avoid canned foods, as the lining of the cans are almost always lined with BPA.  This is to protect the can from corrosion.  Instead buy frozen vegetables.
  11. Don’t use pots and pans that are made of Aluminum.  These are hard to find in stores now, but just a few years ago they were everywhere.
  12. Don’t use plastic wrap or Saran wrap, instead opt for glass containers.

Safer Alternatives…

  • Glass
  • Ceramic
  • Stainless Steel
  • Silicone

If you must use plastic, avoid microwaving or heating up food in it.   Don’t put hot/warm foods into plastic containers as the chemical can leech into your food.  Wet foods or liquids have a tendency to cause more leaching than dry/cool foods.

Sole has left the Anticon record label and has a new album coming out February 15th, 2011 called Nuclear Winter 2.  Here is a new track from that album called Generation Hot.

Though I sometimes question the rhythm of the lyrics over the music, I always love the message, heart, and passion of his lyrics. His music always sounds genuinely real. I am really looking forward to his new album.
