Lately I have been hearing alot about a game for playstation 2 called “Katamari” most recently in a video of WordCamp San Fransisco…
Matt Cutts’ enthusiasm for the game interested me somewhat.
(Katamari Reference – 27:30)
After researching Katamari, I have to say I think the game would be really fun to play. The object of the game according to Wikipedia is:
Objects that are smaller than the Katamari will stick to it when the player comes into contact with them, while larger objects can be obstacles; colliding at high speed with a larger object may cause objects to fall off the katamari, slowing down the player’s progress. The game uses size, weight, and surface area to determine if an object will stick to the katamari. This allows long, thin objects, such as pencils, that are larger than the katamari, to be picked up, and these will alter how the katamari rolls until more objects are picked up. Large animals, such as cats, will chase the katamari, knocking things from it, but once the katamari is large enough, it will scare the animals away, and they can be rolled up once they are chased down. As objects stick to the katamari, the katamari will grow, eventually allowing objects that were once obstacles to be picked up, and creating access to areas that were previously blocked. In this manner, the player might start the game by picking up thumbtacks and ants, and slowly work up to the point where the katamari is picking up buildings, mountains and clouds.
According to the developer of the game (now a series) he “proactively ignored” advice from Namco to increase the complexity of the game. HA!
Here is a gameplay video…
Doesn’t that look fun? I just ordered mine from a site on Google Shopping. Should arrive next week sometime!
Hahahahaha!
For those who need a refresher on who the Numa Numa guy is….
Awhile back when hanging out with some friends we decided to go see a metal band at Revolutions in Neenah, WI. I, never really liking metal music found “Bound for Severance” to be an incredibly awesome local group that I had never heard before.
When they first took the stage and played a few notes I was thinking, wow that is REALLY LOUD! After a few more notes and mic check, the sound guy was like, “how we doing?” the band replied, “much louder on everything” …ho-ly $hit. If you’re anywhere near the speakers you will physically feel the music vibrating your chest cavity. No lie. Since the speakers sit on the floor there, the whole bar was shaking. I literally had to lean in and scream at the top of my lungs into the bartenders ear to place my drink order. It was incredibility fun, at one point I step out of the building to make a call and I could clearly hear the band inside!
I was really impressed and had a great time, and would highly recommend going and seeing this group if your looking for something fun to do, even if your not a fan of this genre of music. They are a cross between rock and metal. So it’s NOT just screaming, or death metal, there is singing as well.
I will to make an effort to drive back and see this band again this year. Dates and locations are posted on their site. You can listen to some of their music on their MySpace page.
Also for more music by them and photos of the band check out these youtube videos.
Hey if your looking for new music, check out a cd by Tobacco called Fucked Up Friends. This album was recommended to be by an old roommate in college. The whole album is full of good tracks. and the music videos are incrediably strange, often times containing stange video footage from the 80’s like this one. The music is great but some of the music videos are a little to weird for me. LOL.
Remember this commercial from back in the day? I like the typography of the BUD ICE at the end.
This was a video I remember seeing on MTV when I was younger and loved it, I just rediscovered it.
