This is kind of a strange song (nice drum beat) that I came across it while checking out The Hickensian the blog of Jon Hicks, which I frequent. Jon Hicks is a print and web development guy from the UK and he works for Opera. I learned a lot about how to layout a website with CSS by studying the guts of his journal page which he leaves notes for people and even a joke at the bottom of the source page. He is generally really good and implementing new trends or technology on his site, so always a good one to study. Here’s a video he posted on his site. I am passing it on…

Cannibal Ox – The F-word Lyrics

yo it wasn’t even like that
I wanted my cardiovascular to fight back
cupid had me runnin’ circles blindfolded
in the daytime with a flashlight looking for her
yo, sit back, relax and smell the roses
a fly girl by any other name would still be that
but the trick is to see that
I’m caught in between future’s fantasies and memories I played back
told my man I started sword fighting
’cause fencing was similar to tongue kissing
if you wait too long you gonna end up confessin’
all I think about is you undressin’
I extended my thoughts in a relationship
but they sunk like the titanic relation-ships
she was in a love triangle
but it wasn’t like my feelings weren’t there to make it a square
penny’s for her thoughts
she’s my very own American Beauty, red petals when we talk
…the f word

Chorus 1: [Vordul Megalon]
She like music, got me heavily booted(?)
when I’m out with her feelings be mixin’
chemical elixirs, caught her like a sickness
and can’t get rid of it, these sexual addictions

Chorus 2: [Vordul]
tangle witted in my opposite sex friendships
with too many emotions, got me bent up
and it’s real ill when something going on
but nothings being said trying to figure it out
wrapped all in your head just spit it out and I’ll
truly understand what the problem is
’cause you got me twisted tryin’ to stress birds
kickin’ that f word
fuckin around, flirtin’ and stressin’ my nerves

Verse 2: [Vast]
check this situation, I wore my lust like cologne
she called it Obsession
the background’s black and white and we adolescents
like what the fuck we know about love?
the more I learn it’s like the Clash of the Titans
all I wanna do is avoid fightin’
a little arguing’s okay but not everyday
and if we can’t communicate what we got decays
until the smell gets more pungent
to the point where we can’t be seen in public
body parts fallin’ apart, a symbol of what things do
or better yet, a symbol of what friends do, they die
and together forever just sounds fly
that’s how it sounded to me when I heard it
and slow motion was her lips as she worded
the f word
“don’t take it personal, I like you a lot but I don’t wanna lose what we got”
but what we got now is friction
she tellin’ me intimacy and friendship she ain’t mixin’
the f word

Chorus 1

Verse 3: [Vast]
yo, you burnin’ the candle at both ends
I’m supposed to be the friend, I’m gettin’ fried in the end
the big bang theory, what is this a trend?
you ask a girl out and the universe extends
tell me to talk to the hand again and I’ll read your palm
I’m smellin’ your shit now, don’t know how to call
all I wanted was grounds for understanding
I ain’t greedy, but to hold your heart I gotta put my hand in, why debate?
you think you can fit me in that anorexic space between love and hate?
I got all of the first one and none of the other
and that’s something I learned from my sister and my mother
thought we was close in the genesis before all this
technology was cordless, a senseless courtship
this is more than just a song and when he’s treating you wrong
I’m more than just a shoulder to cry on
the F word

I posted this a few days ago but something went wrong and the video didn’t show up. Anyways, this is B.Dolan, and I saw him and Sage Francis on stage at SoundSet09 and I had never heard of him until then. After checking out Sage’s site and seeing the video in the post below I remembered the show being pretty unique and decidied to look him up again. I have been listening to his album “Failure” almost non stop. This song which could probably be considered spoken word, is actually really powerful, and I especially like it. Give it a listen!

Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

When what is happening in your world doesn’t make sense, when it doesn’t conform to your beliefs about how things should work, it’s time to ask hard questions. I live my life by the sentence; Always think for yourself, question everything always, and never stop fiending for knowledge. Read, think, and be free.

There is a song that sums up many of my beliefs, these lyrics may just change your life or change the way you think….

Sole – Dumb this Down

puppets, cannibals, satellite shadows,
businessmen, inmates, free thinkers, and cattle.
(dumb this down.)
birds on power lines, lion heads on mantles, pop idol pawns,
dead presidents, live poets, and dust mites.
(dumb this down.)
hookers on birth control, men on wanted posters, the women who love them,
dinosaurs, inbreds, and alien holograms.
(dumb this down.)
b-52 pilots and other airborne bacteria,
children born with stds and the sons of rich tyrants…
(dumb this down.)

bewildered herds, sharpen your teeth.
remember these three quotes.
only lie to cameras, cops, and crooks.
see kindness is within our power, but fondness is not.
under the false umbrella of hope, lives are sold, and people are bought.
somebody once told me: all men were created equal.
you’re not created in the womb,
you’re created in a classroom by rich people,
and history is written through the eyes of the butcher.
those who benefit from an ignorant public condescend and insult you.
they built you in the image of slaves; the freemen got locked up.
as long as they control the means of selling beliefs, no man is equal.
if there’s a policeman living in your head, you’re not free.
cuz if free trade were real, everyone would own a company.

all that is solid has melted into air,
it doesn’t matter who you vote for, the government will always get in.
all that was once solid has melted into air,
one hundred thousand lemmings can’t be wrong…

people join the army to pay for college.
in California residents go to college for free.
what will you do?
smoke weed on the weekends and go hiking?
or serve a white collar death squad of an oil company military.
everybody want heaven but nobody wants dead.
we are living in a rich man’s heaven, a poor man’s hell.
the middle class is dwindling, the population is doubling,
we are not living in Rome, we have been living in a fiefdom.
so when they remap all the genomes, remember.
it’s a hate free zone…
cuz money doesn’t care who burns it.
the word is a killer virus:
i’m not a happy plant, so i carry diseases.
so the ones who are starved of knowledge can someday flourish
and punish all those who stood between us.

quit your job, start a business and read more.
all that was once solid has melted into air.

they left the door open cuz the best illusions are half real.

puppets, cannibals, satellite shadows,
businessmen, inmates, free thinkers, and cattle.
(dumb this down.)
birds on power lines, lion heads on mantles, pop idol pawns,
dead presidents, live poets, and dust mites.
(dumb this down.)
hookers on birth control, men on wanted posters, the women who love them,
dinosaurs, inbreds, and alien holograms.
(dumb this down.)
b-52 pilots and other airborne bacteria,
children born with stds and the sons of rich tyrants…
(dumb this down.)

Read and comprehend the lyrics above then,

Awhile back when hanging out with some friends we decided to go see a metal band at Revolutions in Neenah, WI. I, never really liking metal music found “Bound for Severance” to be an incredibly awesome local group that I had never heard before.

When they first took the stage and played a few notes I was thinking, wow that is REALLY LOUD! After a few more notes and mic check, the sound guy was like, “how we doing?” the band replied, “much louder on everything” …ho-ly $hit. If you’re anywhere near the speakers you will physically feel the music vibrating your chest cavity. No lie. Since the speakers sit on the floor there, the whole bar was shaking. I literally had to lean in and scream at the top of my lungs into the bartenders ear to place my drink order. It was incredibility fun, at one point I step out of the building to make a call and I could clearly hear the band inside!

I was really impressed and had a great time, and would highly recommend going and seeing this group if your looking for something fun to do, even if your not a fan of this genre of music. They are a cross between rock and metal. So it’s NOT just screaming, or death metal, there is singing as well.

I will to make an effort to drive back and see this band again this year. Dates and locations are posted on their site. You can listen to some of their music on their MySpace page.

Also for more music by them and photos of the band check out these youtube videos.
